How can a person know that they are saved?

The Bible teaches us that if a person confesses his sin, God is faithful and just to forgive their sin and cleanse them from all unrighteousness (1 John 1:9). This means that one must turn away from their sin and turn to God,surrendering their lives to God, acknowledging Him as Lord of their life. When a person truly repents of their sin and accepts Jesus’ death on the cross as payment for their sin, and surrenders their life to Him,then they can be sure they have been saved.

Isn’t it intolerant to believe that Jesus is the only way one can attain salvation? What about the Muslims, Jews, Hindus, and other people who are sincere in their faith.

No, it is not intolerant. God is a very tolerant God. In fact, He is so tolerant that He gave His one and only Son to be the Savior of the world. Jesus Christ died on the cross to pay man’s sin penalty. Since we have all sinned, our only hope of eternal life in heaven is through the life offered to us through the sacrifical death of Jesus and His glorious resurrection. No one else ever died to pay your sin penalty. Jesus said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).

If a person committs suicide doesn’t that mean that he will not go to heaven?

Not necessarily. While it is a sin to commit suicide since God declares that life is sacred and is a gift of God, this sin, like all sins separate us from God. However, God in His great love sent His Son to die on the cross as our payment for sin, and then rose from the dead with victory over sin. So if one has repented of their sin and received Jesus Christ as their Savior, there is therefore now, no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus. He is forgiven.
